Wells 0-3 Street
Chainey double as Street grab another victory
Street's form showed no sign of easing up this evening as they hit win number 23 in a row to maintain their 15 point advantage over the chasing pack and remain top of the Western League Premier Division. For a derby it was quite a low key affair and Rich Fey would of been pleased with a professional performance to claim all 3 points.
It was just the start Street would of wanted as after only 4 minutes great work by Jake Mawford down the right saw him pick out an unmarked Steve Murray at the far post to nod in the opening goal. Murray was a real handful in the opening stages and on 15 minutes it was his excellent run down the left that allowed him pick out Aidan Chainey on the edge of the box and the Street midfielder brilliantly shifted the ball onto his left foot to pick out the top corner giving the keeper no chance. Ten minutes later Craig Herrod latched onto a weak defensive header but his shot went agonisingly wide with the keeper getting the faintest of touches. Wells tried to remain competitive and had the odd spell of pressure but nothing that troubled Tom Punchard in the Street goal.
The Cobblers completely dominated the opening exchanges in the second half but it took until the hour mark for the next opportunity as Murray burst through and rounded the keeper, the ball falling to Lewis Waldy but his goal bound effort was cleared off the line. On 65 minutes Chainey scored his second and Street's third after he stole possession in the final third and unleashed an unstoppable effort from 25 yards that flew into the roof of the net, great hit! Street had further chances to score with Mawford stinging the palms of the keeper, Murray flashed over on the angle and Waldy forcing a great save after neat interchange with Harry Foster but the Cobblers couldn't quite add to their goal tally on the night.
A deserved victory for Street as they move onto another away day at Clevedon this Thursday evening. Thank you to Wells for their hospitality, good luck for the rest of the season.
