AFC Totton 2-0 Street

Battling Street lose on the road

Street suffered their first Southern League defeat of the season going down 2-0 away at AFC Totton yesterday afternoon.

On a scorching afternoon in front of a 300 plus crowd Rich Fey would have been encouraged by Street's commitment and battling display in a game void of many clear cut chances. The hosts certainly started the better and after a couple of half chances they got their noses in front in the 7th minute when Eddie Perrett found the bottom corner from close range after a shot somewhat fortunately deflected into his path.

Street responded well and In the 11th minute Ed Butcher had a shot cleared off the line following a corner that was only half cleared and in the 17th minute Steve Murray slipped his marker to tee up an on rushing Dave O'Hare but the midfielder slightly scuffed his effort from the edge of the box and the keeper got down to make a comfortable save. Totton missed a great chance to go 2-0 before the break but Charlie Gunson fired high and wide when well placed.

The second half Street looked more comfortable on the ball and had long periods of possession without being able to create any real clear cut openings as the home side's defence stood firm. Mid way through the half Jamie Short's effort was blocked by a last ditch challenge and Ed Butcher effort also failed to reach the target as bodies once more were being thrown in front of the ball.

Totton were always a threat on the break especially with the game being stretched and they started to create one or two chances with substitute Craig Feeney having the best of them on 75 minutes but his unmarked header from 12 yards flew well wide. The hosts all but grabbed the 3 points with a couple of minutes left when Toby Adekunle bundled in at the far post.

Phil Ormrod fired a late effort just past the post but it wasn't to be on the day for the Cobblers.

Man of the match Josh Bennett on his first start since returning from injury. Congratulated by Clive Kemmish after the game.
