Cobblers leave it late!
Street scored deep into stoppage time to secure a 1-0 away victory at Hengrove to send Rich Fey’s men top of the table.
A game of resolute defending by the home side and few chances of note from either side didn’t make for great viewing but the Cobblers spirit and character shone through in the end as Ben Amghar scored a brilliant winner to secure all 3 points.
A Craig Herrod cross on 15 minutes was met by Steve Murray who’s snap shot was turned away by the GK. Herrod himself had a good opportunity 10 minutes later but his cross shot was saved following good work by Lewis Tasker. Half time score of 0-0 was a fair reflection owith neither team managing to get a foothold in the game.
Street started dominating proceedings with good attacking intent but the Hengrove defence defended superbly to snuff out any clear cut chances. Just after the hour mark Herrod met Josh Wadham’s centre but his shot was superbly tipped onto the post and away for a corner. Ross McErlain and Ben Robertson were excellent in the heart of the Street defence and with time ticking away a frustrating 0-0 draw looked on the cards.

Street were piling on the pressure in a frantic finish and Herrod nearly scored with 3 minutes remaining following a quick free kick and despite having two bites of the cherry a combination of good goalkeeping and defending kept him at bay. With Hengrove looking to run down the clock a winner deep into injury time finally came. A ball into the box was only partially cleared and Amghar reacted quickest to fire his 25 yard effort into the top corner, a goal worthy of winning any game.
A terrific end to the game which continues the Cobblers good form and confidence will be high going into Saturday's away game at Cadbury Heath. Big thank you to everyone that travelled last night, great to see so much Cobbler support!
