Willand Rovers 7-1 Street

Cobblers exit FA vase

Street went out the FA Vase on Saturday at a wet and blustery Silver Street and a score line not many seen coming especially at half time. Willand stared the brighter and the first goal came after ten minutes when Tom Punchard was lobbed with a smart finish. Lewis Hogg then rattled the bar ten minutes later following a weak clearance from a corner as Street started to exert more pressure. The pressure told when Josh Wadham equalised from the edge of the box with a deflected effort on the half hour mark. Street spent the last 15 minutes of the first half bombarding the Willand goal with efforts from Steve Murray, Craig Herrod and Dave O'Hare all failing to trouble the Willand GK.

Street started the second half on the front foot, attacking at every opportunity without creating that clear chance to score. But it was hosts who regained the lead on 60 minutes with a looping header past Punchard following a free kick into the box. The big moment in the game came on 65 minutes when a penalty was awarded to Street and a chance to level, up stepped leading scorer Murray who hammered his effort against the bar. This galvanised the hosts who went straight up the other end to make it 3-1 with a excellent run and finish. With 15 minutes left on the clock the game was put to bed with another header past Punchard to make it 4-1. With two minutes left, the decent sized crowd who had braved the testing conditions thought they saw the last of action as Willand scored from close range. Every shot now seemed to be flying in as two more goals were scored in added time to make a very convincing 7-1 victory for Willand who deservedly progress. Bad day at the office!

Thank you to Willand for their excellent hospitality, best of luck in the next round.

Rich Fey and the boys will be hoping to bounce back this Saturday when Street welcome undefeated Bradford Town to the Tannery Ground in a top of the table clash.
