Street claim derby spoils

It’s been a happy stomping ground in recent years for the Cobblers and Saturday proved no different as a clinical Steve Murray double gave Street a great derby win. Street were without four key players that started the last game due to injury and suspension but Rich Fey shuffled the pack to great affect to produce a solid display.

It was Shepton that started the game better, keeping and moving the ball very well and Street had to remain disciplined to snuff out any serious efforts on their goal. Street’s main threat in the opening period was full back Lewis Tasker who was being given plenty of space on the left hand side, it was his thunderous long range effort on 15 minutes that produced a fine save by the young Shepton keeper.

Craig Herrod started coming into the game as the half went on and was causing one or two problems with his strong running as Street started to up the tempo. The deadlock was broken on 41 minutes when a jinking run by that man Herrod, gave the opportunity to Lewis Waldy to slip in Steve Murray on the edge of the box who slammed his effort in at the near post to a chorus of boos from the home fans.

The second half Street started controlling possession and their back line remained resilient with Lewis Hogg having an outstanding game at right back. Street remained patient for the second goal and it came on the hour mark when they stole possession on the edge of their box and Herrod broke with pace who played in Murray on the left who drove past his marker and flicked the ball into the far corner for a terrific goal.

Street started to pick Shepton off during the closing stages as the hosts threw men forward with Herrod and Murray missing chances to put the game to bed late on. It finished 2-0, and a richly deserved three points to keep the Cobblers fine run of form going.

Thank you to all the Street fans who made the trip to Shepton, fantastic away support.
