Bridport 2-3 Street

Street's title credentials were given a stern test away at Bridport this evening but a late Harry Foster goal gave the Cobblers a brilliant 3 points to extend their lead at the top to 8 points.

Street nearly made the dream start after only a couple minutes on the clock when a corner by Craig Herrod was met by a fierce Ross McErlain header with the keeper tipping the ball over the bar. Street pressed and were very dominant in the early stages and their pressure told after 12 minutes when a great free kick by Lewis Tasker saw McErlain plant his header into the back of the net. It got even better for the Cobblers minutes later when Steve Murray fed Dave O'Hare out on the left who saw the keeper off his line and chipped a wonderful left footed strike inside the far post. Street were controlling possession and could should of made it 3-0 before half time. Firstly Herrod blasted over following a Wadham free kick then just before half time Murray raced clear but his effort was saved by the keeper's legs.

Bridport came out for the second half and looked a completely different team, and had Street pinned in their half for long periods as they tried to drag themselves back into the game. On 52 minutes they pulled a goal back when the Bridport left back surged forward and his cross come shot evaded everyone and the ball nestled in off the far post. Ten minutes later they were back on level terms with a header from a corner and moments later ex Cobbler Mark Salter was a whisker away from giving the hosts a lead when a low cross into the box evaded his out stretched boot.

Manager Rich Fey reacted with a formation change and rung the changes in the hope of securing the 3 points that would keep this long winning run going. The game got very scrappy and there was a flurry of bookings for both teams but it was Street who got their noses in front with 15 minutes left to play. Jake Mawford picked up the ball in the middle of midfield and his weighted ball over the Bridport defence was latched upon by Murray whose stinging drive was palmed away by the keeper and it was Foster reacting quickest to smash the ball into the empty net. Both teams ended with ten men with Mawford picking up a second yellow but Street were able to close the game out and extend the their lead at the top of the Western League Premier Division.

Man of the match was left back Lewis Tasker
