Street 5-0 Cadbury Heath

March 11, 2018

Five Star showing at the Tannery

Street put in a commanding performance at the Tannery to notch win number 18 in a row and remain 10 points clear the top of the Western League Premier Division. After 4 previous victories by the single goal margin, Street put in a performance of the highest quality to run in 5 unanswered goals and dominate the game from start to finish.

Street nudged themselves in front after only 8 minutes when a Josh Wadham corner wasn't dealt with by the visitors and Matt Hurley was on hand to lash the ball home from close range. Aidan Chainey and Hurley were seeing plenty of the ball in the early stages and starting wave after wave of Street attacks. Steve Murray shot into the side netting on 20 minutes but shortly after the Cobblers were 2-0 up. A fast break and interchange by Josh Bennett and Hurley saw the ball fall to Lewis Hogg on the edge of the box who cushioned a delightful header into the path of Wadham who arrowed a brilliant effort into the far corner. That's 4 in 4 games for the in-form wide man.

After half time Street had no intention of sitting on their two goal advantage and were soon 3-0 up on 50 minutes when Hogg made a yard of space for himself inside the box to slot home. Full backs Lewis Tasker and Bennett were enjoying plenty of the ball and joining in at every opportunity and Ross McErlain and Ben Amghar were in imposing form at the heart of the Cobbler defence and remained fairly untroubled throughout the afternoon. On 70 minutes it was 4-0 when a bamboozling run by Jake Mawford ended with a fine ball to Harry Foster who made no mistake to hammer his volley home. The rout was completed shortly before the game ended when a quickly taken free kick by Hogg saw Craig Herrod skin his man and beat the goalkeeper at the near post.

A complete performance with the tone being set by mascot Callum Birch who led the teams out at the start of the game. Callum and his dad Ben congratulated Lewis Hogg on his well deserved man of the match award. A collection was made on the day raising £140 which was put towards the fundraising efforts for the family, thank you to the Cobb fans for their donations.

Congratulations to fans favourite Tom Punchard on his second safe hands award this season. Tom was quick to praise the efforts of GK coach Kev Hurd and the back 4. Well done Punchy!
