Street 1-0 Bridport

Street return to winning ways with late Herrod strike

Street left it late in the day but a great Craig Herrod strike was enough to claim all 3 points and continue their exceptional run of form. The Cobblers didnt have it all their own way but showed the more attacking intent and deserved to win on the night.

In the opening period Steve Murray twice got in down the left, his first effort hitting the top of the bar following a deflection off the defender and his second strike was well blocked. On 19 minutes a clever run by Herrod saw him upended in the box after a poor tackle from behind but to the amazement of the Cobbler fans the ref waved play on. Murray and Jake Mawford had further efforts from distance before half time but the deadlock could not be broken.

It took until the hour mark for the next real opportunity as a dangerous Mawford cross was met by Ross McErlain but his header was tipped over. Dave O'Hare pounced on a defensive mix up after 75 minutes but couldn't quite get his shot away and was cleared behind. From the resulting corner McErlain again headed just wide. With the pressure building and Bridport putting numbers behind the ball Street scored the winner with 4 minutes left on the clock. Herrod found space on the edge of the box and sold a dummy to two Bridport defenders as he checked onto his weaker right foot and hit a rocket of a shot into the bottom corner via a slight deflection.

Street saw out the game and claimed a victory that seen them move onto 96 points with 2 games left. Next up is a tough trip away at Buckland Athletic Thursday night.

Big thank you to our brilliant programme editor Roger Palmer who was our match ball sponsor this evening. Man of the match was right back Josh Bennett whose rampaging runs down the right and tough tackling a big hit with the Cobbler faithful!

UP THE COBBS!
