Street edged out in semi-final

An agonising 1-0 extra time defeat to Buckland Athletic in the semi final of the Les Phillips Cup ended Street’s brilliant season. The Cobbs were left to rue a series of missed chances on the night after dominated long periods of the game but just couldn’t quite force the ball home.

On 20 minutes Craig Herrod and Dave O’Hare created an opportunity for Steve Murray but his point blank effort was well smothered. The visiting keeper was having one of the nights as he again kept out a powerful by from Herrod from the edge of the box then a dipping volley by Murray just before half time.

It took a little while for the second half to warm up with both teams centre backs in dominant form as it always looked like one goal would nick the game. On 70 minutes a corner was flicked on by O’Hare but just slightly to high for Murray as his header went over. Lewis Tasker then drilled a fine cross shot into the box but it evaded everyone including the out stretched leg of Josh Wadham at the far post.

Buckland took the lead 7 minutes into extra time when a ball through was cleared via several deflections and the striker had the job of rolling the ball into the net. The second period of extra time Street throw everything at the Buckland goal. Harry Foster Foster couldn’t quite connect with a volley following a deep cross from the right, Jake Mawford was inches wide from the edge of the box then O’Hare’s effort flashed over when he was well placed. Seconds left on the clock a goal mouth scramble looked as if the ball was going to be forced home for the match to end with penalties but Buckland managed to ride their luck and clear the ball away. A dogged defensive display by the visitors the entire evening.

Congratulations to Buckland and also neighbours Shepton for making he final.

Big thank you to all the supporters who have got behind the team this season, your vocal support has been second to none. See you all again next season!
