Mangotsfield United 1-2 Street

September 22, 2018

Foster nets late winner!

A wet and windy afternoon at Cossham Street saw the Cobblers pick up an excellent 3 points and continue their solid start to the season. It was game full of missed chances and 3 points Rich Fey's men should of put to bed before half time but on the balance of play a deserved victory that moves Street into 5th place in what is still very early days into the new campaign.

The early exchanges were fairly even and had to wait until the 15th minute for the first chance when Ross McErlain tested the keeper with a direct free kick that was palmed away. Mangotsfield looked a threat on the break but it was Street doing most of the pressing and the lively Ed Butcher and Matt Hurley testing the keeper from distance mid way through the half. Butcher and Phil Ormrod had further opportunities but again couldn't break the deadlock with keeper in sparkling form. Mangotsfield responded well with a couple of shots from distance and took the lead on 36 minutes against the run of play after a uncharacteristic error from McErlain allowed the Lewis Britton to lob the ball over Tom Punchard and tap into an empty net. Street responded just before half time when Ormrod found space on the left and his pin point cross was nodded home by Dave O'Hare.

The second half was void of goal mouth action with Leigh Bailey and McErlain outstanding in the heart of the Street defence, with great support from full backs Lewis Tasker and Josh Bennett. The hosts had a chance to take the lead on the hour mark but Britton's header failed to test Punchard in the Street goal following a deep cross from the left. The winner came with 10 minutes left on the clock when Matt Hurley carved open the Managotsfield defence with an exquisite ball to sub Harry Foster who bent his run superbly to slip his shot

under the on rushing keeper.

Man of the match was centre back Leigh Bailey

Man of the match was Leigh Bailey kindly presented with a can of cider by supporter Mark Fey(he refused to buy a bottle of wine!)
