Thatcham Town 0-1 Street

Street put in solid defensive display

Street put in a brilliant defensive performance against in form Thatcham Town to come away with 1-0 win and lift them to 3rd in the table. It wasn’t a game for the purists but Manager Rich Fey would of been delighted by the defensive resolve and ability to see the game out after going ahead so early in the game.

A big moment in the game came as early as the 9th minute when Thatcham centre back Thomas headed over a Coyle free kick with the goal gaping. Street immediately punished that miss when Jamie Short swung in a right wing free kick and Ross McErlain superbly rose highest to send his header into the far corner. Mid way through half Street should of doubled their lead when Short brought a smart save from the keeper following good work from Harry Foster and then Phil Ormrod headed inches wide when well placed.

Craig Herrod lobbed an effort wide just before half time just after secretary Rich Pallette was stung on the ear by a wasp much to the amusement of both sets of fans!

The second half was void of very few chances with the Street back four of Josh Bennett, Ben Amghar, McErlain and Lewis Waldy in imperious form. Herrod shot wide on the hour mark and the impressive Matt Hurley struck the bar with a dangerous cross into the box. Street were clearing their lines at every opportunity and were thankful to be saved by the woodwork with moments left on the clock when a cross come shot cannoned off the cross bar. On the balance of play a deserved 3 points for the Cobblers with stopper Tom Punchard having little to do during the 90 minutes.

Man of the match Ross McErlain

Terrific away support!
