Street 4-1 Cinderford Town

Superb Street win FA Trophy replay

It was a complete performance from Street last night that sent Cinderford Town crashing out the FA Trophy and set up a trip to Weymouth in the next round on November 10th. There was nothing to choose between the two teams in Saturday’s 2-2 draw but Street made home advantage count this time around with a dominant display thanks to goals by Jamie Short, Phil Ormrod, Dave O’Hare and Ed Butcher.

Street went ahead early on when the Cinderford defence failed to clear a corner and Short riffled in through a crowd of players from the edge of the box. Ten minutes later the Cobblers were at it again when a delightful cross field pass from Matt Hurley sent Ormrod through on goal and he held off the defender to bury his effort into the far corner.

The game settled down after that with Aidan Chainey and Hurley outstanding in the middle of the park which made it hard for the hosts to start any meaningful attacks. The game reached the interval with Street deservedly two goals to the good.

The start of the second half, as was the case on Saturday, was dominated by Cinderford but they weren’t able to test Tom Punchard in the Street goal blazing a couple of efforts well over. They then had a goal disallowed on the hour mark for a foul on Punchard which then kicked started Street into life again.

Street netted a third on 72 minutes when Chainey split the defence with a pass to Ormrod down the left hand side and he unselfishly laid it on a plate for the on rushing O’Hare who found the bottom corner. With minutes to go Cinderford pulled one back from close range only for Butcher to immediately put the game to bed. The flying winger picked up the ball on the half way line, went past three players and slotted past the GK, what a goal!
