Last gap equaliser grabs Street a point

A bitterly cold and wet day in Worcestershire saw the Cobblers snatch a point at the death through Ben Amghar’s close range strike. Conditions were borderline unplayable at times which didn’t make for a great spectacle but Street were more then good value for a share of the spoils.

The game had to wait until the 20th minute for the first real chance as Phil Ormrod fired over after being teed up by strike partner Steve Murray. Street really should of been ahead at the break as Ormrod once more had a glorious opportunity when he broke into the box but again fired over when well placed.

Evesham who were kicking into the wind found it extremely hard to get themselves up the pitch and Street kept them to a couple of long range efforts that didn’t trouble Liam Kingston in the Street goal. Marley Thomas came the closest with a shot that was cleared off the line just before the half ended.

Evesham took a lead straight after the restart when a cross from Steve Davis from the right saw Cory Simpson nip ahead of his marker to volley towards goal, Kingston got a strong hand to it but couldn’t prevent it going over the line. Harry Foster went close on two occasions mid way through the half, the first a rasping drive from the edge of he box which was dealt with well by the GK and the second he was inches away from connecting with a brilliant cross from Ed Butcher.

The final stages Street were doing all they can to force an equaliser with Foster dragging a shot wide and a Aidan Chainey header just going over. With 2 minutes left on the clock Street's efforts were rewarded when a Butcher corner found its way to Amghar at the far post who expertly controlled it and lashed it into the roof of the net.

Full credit to the Evesham ground staff for getting the game on and a big thank you to the hosts for their hospitality.
