Street 2-1 Cirencester Town

December 23, 2018

It was a Christmas cracker at the Tannery as Street grabbed a brilliant 3 points with 2 late goals from Steve Murray and Dave O'Hare. Once again Street's resilience and character shone through against a very good Cirencester team who will be their or their abouts come the end of the season.

Cirencester applied some early pressure and Street were thankful to Liam Kingston who saved a long range effort down to his left. The visitors took a deserved lead on 12 minutes when Street failed to clear their lines and Aidan Bennett bent a fine effort into the top corner. The hosts were dominant and the back four of Josh Bennett, Lewis Waldy, Ross McErlain and skipper Ben Amghar had to be at their defensive best to stop a wave of attacks. Cirencester had a goal disallowed and Alan Griffin twice went close to prevent the cobblers going 2-0 down at the break.

Street reorganised and looked a changed team after the break but it was Cirencester had next effort at goal but Kingston again got down well to tip a stinging drive round the post. On the hour mark Matt Hurley's excellent strike whistled past the post and moments later Waldy broke down the left but slightly over ran the ball and the chance had gone. With 10 minutes left the ball broke to Ben Whitehead in the box and out of no where Bennett made an exceptional block to keep Street in The game.

With the clock ticking Street grabbed an equaliser when Oscar Latas found Murray and the striker skipped past a challenge with a run into the box and smashed a fine effort into the corner to the delight of the strong Street support. The Cobblers were not done when a high ball into the box was headed across goal by Latas and O'Hare's acrobatic effort flew into the net! A great finish, worthy to win any game.
