Street hit 4 in dominant Boxing Day display

Street turned in a great Boxing Day performance, scoring 2 goals in each half and continue their good recent form. A dominant Cobblers were good value for the 3 points and despite a brief second half spell there only looked like being one winner.

Rich Fey set his team out to attack to attack and made the dream start inside a minute when Lewis Waldy’s terrific cross from the left caught a static Paulton defence napping and Steve Murray nipped in to send a delightful effort with the outside of his boot into the far corner. On 17 minutes it was 2-0 when Jamie Short’s free kick into the box saw Ben Amghar out muscle his marker to head into the a dangerous area and Harry Foster reacted quickest to smash a volley past the keeper.

Paulton found it difficult to start any meaningful attacks with Matt Hurley and Aidan Chainey winning and retaining possession superbly in the middle of the park. Liam Kingston remained largely untroubled in the Street goal as the hosts long ball game didn’t manage to cause Street too many problems.

Straight after half time Paulton reduces the arrears when a Short foul a yard outside the box was given as a penalty and Jake Ball made no mistake from the spot kick. Paulton were having their best spell of the game with Dale Evans becoming more influential with a couple of decent balls into the box. However it was Street that inflicted a sucker punch on 52 minutes when Hurley’s long pass was missed by the back tracking Paulton defence and the dangerous Murray nipped in to round the keeper and score his second of the game and make it 3-1.

Dave O’Hare went close on 85 minutes when his header was tipped over but moments later another header by the Street midfielder did count when he met a Waldy corner and the keeper parried into the path of Phil Ormrod who hammered it home from 6 yards out. Paulton made it 4-2 with minutes to go with a deflected free kick from Evans. A wild challenge from Jamie Laird with minutes to go was lucky to only receive a yellow as Paulton cut a frustrated figure as Street successfully saw the game out.

Massive thank you to all the Cobbler fans that made the trip, fantastic support!
