Fleet Town 1-3 Street

December 30, 2018

The cobblers travelled to 2nd from bottom side Fleet full of confidence after boasting an impressive 4-2 away victory at Paulton on Boxing Day. It was a performance that extended the unbeaten run to five games and moves them up 7th in the table as we approach the half way mark in the season.

The Cobblers set about their business early on having to get to grips with a difficult pitch to play on. . The evergreen Steve Murray was first to try his luck early on with a well placed effort which just cleared the bar after good work by Jamie Short. After 28 minutes Street took a deserved lead. A first time pass by in form Matt Hurley picked out Dave O'Hare who leaped highest to head into a dangerous area and after a goal mouth scramble Murray was on hand to force it home.

The 2nd half Street came out on the front foot and carried on trying to creating chances. Murray, Harry Foster and O'Hare all getting in on the act but couldn’t add to the slender one goal lead. Manager Rich Fey made 2 substitutions bringing on Ed Butcher and Phil Ormrod which paid dividends straight away. A Butcher corner on 70 minutes was powerfully headed home by Ormrod who had made space in the box. Street were still creating chances and the 3rd goal came late in the game when a hopeful ball down the right saw Ormrod and keeper come together but Ormrod bravely struck to see the ball roll into the net taking a knock in the process. Fleet to their credit never gave up and won a cheap free kick with seconds left on the clock which was played into the box and scrambled home.

Street never looked in danger of not winning this game and keeps their outstanding run going. Barnstaple are next up at home on New Years Day, with a slightly earlier kick off time 2pm. We must add the travelling support yesterday was the best the club has known. Singing behind the goal and on the players coach on the way home made it a great day.

Jamie Short was Man of the Match seen here with a few of the teriffic supporters yesterday!
