Update from the Secretary
I promised I would keep you updated with our progress towards preserving our club and preparing for football to restart whenever that might be.
Again, I should say that we remain ever conscious of the continued effects of the current crisis upon the lives of so many and our thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones.
Our suppliers and other partners have been extremely supportive for which we remain grateful.
Essential outdoor ground maintenance continues in the capable hands of a group of volunteers all of whom are observing the rules regarding social distancing. Following the changes that came into effect earlier this week, the club has sanctioned the use of the pitch area for players to use for exercise provided there are no more than two at a time observing social distancing and hygiene rules unless they are from the same household. The dressing rooms and club facilities remain closed. I would respectfully remind readers that the grounds remain private property and this limited concession is available only to Street FC players.
Looking ahead, we are hopeful that the club house may be able to open again in July for drinking only at first. Provided the good weather holds and the government allows it, we are confident we can offer outside drinks in the area in front of the club whilst at the same time observing whatever rules remain in place at the time. Unfortunately, this small step does not necessarily mean that football can start immediately afterwards – I still see that as many months away but I sincerely hope I’m wrong! I have received no further updates on this from my contacts at the Western League or the FA and we shall be guided by decisions affecting society as a whole.
We aim to provide a safe environment for players and supporters alike so we’re taking a proactive approach to what changes may need to be made. We shall probably make some physical changes in areas such as the turnstiles. We’re also looking at ways in which we can possibly reduce the amount of cash circulating on match days allowing people to use contactless payment at the turnstiles. More on these and other initiatives as they develop.
Most importantly, First team Manager, Nik Andrews is busy planning for the season once it starts. One vital aspect of this will be the need to rebuild the U18 side as many of last season’s team are no longer eligible and some have become established Western League players. Nik is excited at the prospect of bringing a new group of young players into the club with the potential to quickly develop into first team players and build on the success achieved by last season’s team.
