Street 5-1 Bitton

Street romp to Western League Premier Division title

Roy Sandford celebrating with the boys

What an evening at the Tannery Ground as Street secured the Western League Premier Division title with a thumping 5-1 win over Bitton as they notched win number 26 on the bounce. The hero of the evening was Dave O’Hare who scored his second hat-trick over Bitton this season but every player played their part in a outstanding team performance.

It was O’Hare that fired an early warning shot as he crashed an effort against the bar after only 5 minutes. Steve Murray went close moments later as Ben John in the Bitton goal made a smart stop to his left. Just before the half hour mark another O’Hare effort was well saved and Murray couldn’t quite control the rebound.

The opening goal came about on 33 minutes when a corner from Josh Wadham saw Ross McErlain beat his marker to powerfully head in with the final touch going in off Murray. Isn't just Harry Kane that claims goals!

Just after half time a Lewis Tasker cross evaded everyone and hit the cross bar. Moments later O’Hare danced round 3 Bitton players to fire in, a quite brilliant individual effort for the Street midfielder who is enjoying another fine season in front of goal. On 55 minutes Joe McClennan saw red for lashing out, a needless reaction after being fouled.

In the 61st minute it was 3-0 when Tasker picked up a loose ball 30 yards out his rocket of an effort flew into the top corner, what a hit! Ten minutes later Scott Brice scored for the visitors from close range to keep the game interesting but the Cobblers hit back immediately as Craig Herrod set up O’Hare on the edge of the box after a break down the right and he calmly slotted into the bottom corner.

Minutes before full time it was that man O’Hare who got the biggest cheer of the night, when he stabbed home from close range to complete his hat-trick after a flying run from Jake Mawford.

Well done to everyone involved with club for this title winning achievement with no contributions going unnoticed. Rich Fey and the boys have now opened up a staggering 20 point lead!

UP THE COBBS!
