Street 3-1 Slimbridge

Cobblers move up to second with home win

Big thank you to Street under 7's for their effort as mascots, did a great job! They particularly enjoyed Aidan Chainey's slide tackle demonstration in the changing room!

Street’s great start to the season continued as they move into 2nd place following a 3-1 home win over Slimbridge. A game of full of action, goals and talking points but nobody could complain about the final result.

After quarter of an hour Street were were unlucky to concede a penalty when Tom Punchard was adjudged to of fouled in the box. The Street stopper made amends by guessing right to keep out the spot kick and the game remained 0-0. On 30 minutes Harry Foster's thumping header cleared the cross bar but moments later it was 1-0 to the Cobblers when Jamie Short latched onto a through ball from Matt Hurley to then hold off his marker and slot pass the keeper. Initially the linesman flagged for an infringement but after a lengthy discussion with the referee the goal was awarded.

Man of the match Tom Punchard congratulated by Steve Bagg

Street were good for their half time lead and didn’t take long to further go further ahead after the break when the lively Ed Butcher found space on the edge of the box to fire home via a slight deflection. Slimbridge remained competitive and were rewarded for their efforts after 58 minutes with a fine finish from Ewen Dunbar to make it 2-1.

Street got a foothold in the game afterwards and were keeping possession nicely. Dave O’Hare had the next chance on 65 but his fine glanced header struck the woodwork. Slimbridge should of been all square in the 85th minute but a shot from 8 yards out cannoned off the crossbar with the goal gaping. Street wrapped the game up in the last minute when great work from O’Hare out on the left saw him tee up the returning Steve Murray who controlled the pass to side foot pass the keeper.

A great 3 points for the Cobbs, focus now turns to the FA Trophy game away at Weymouth next Saturday.
