Street 1-1 Barnstaple Town

Cobblers grab last minute equaliser

A last gap equaliser from Phil Ormrod against a determined Barnstaple Town gave the Cobblers a share of the spoils. On the balance of play and numerous chances created Street would feel they should of taken all 3 points but credit to Barnstaple who never gave up and made life for Street very difficult.

Street could of went 1-0 up in the early stages but Jamie Short fired just wide but were a goal behind not long after when Ross McErlain unfortunately deflected into his own net. Street continued to go on the front foot and on 26 minutes Steve Murray cut inside and forced the GK to make a good save at his near post and moments later he fed Harry Foster whose effort was easily saved.

With 30 minutes on the clock Street had two chances to bring the game back to level terms. Firstly Murray drew another good save by the GK and from the resulting corner Dave O’Hare rose highest to plant a header straight off the cross bar. Just before half time O’Hare again made room for himself on the edge of the box but his shot that followed flew just wide.

After the break Street were determined to get that equaliser and on 53 minutes brilliant link up play between Ed Butcher and Phil Ormrod almost gave Murray the chance to score but his chipped effort found the side netting. With time running out Street continued to press and a Lewis Waldy free kick was headed into the arms of the GK by McErlain and Waldy again crossed from the left but Short blazed his effort high and wide. With pressure building and in added time a shot from Craig Herrod from outside the box saw the GK save to his left and Ormrod reacted quickest to slide his effort in the angle much to the delight to the terrific Tannery crowd!

Another point and keeps the unbeaten run going to now 6 games. Next up a trip to high flight going Yate Town on Saturday.
