Street 2-0 Mangotsfield United

Street picked up 3 points at a rain soaked Tannery yesterday to end a run of 4 games without a win. On the balance of play and chances created it was a fully deserved win and keeps Street in 12th place and only 4 points off 5th position.

In difficult conditions Street started the game very well and took a early lead in the 11th minute when Jamie Short swung over a free kick from the right hand side and George King thumped his header into the top corner to mark his home debut with a goal. After 30 minutes Oscar Latas fired in a effort from distance but was well tipped over and shortly after the impressive Aidan Chainey connected well with a volley that just cleared the bar.

Five minutes after the break the visitors should of made it 1-1 when Louis Britton broke the offside trap, rounded Liam Kingston and with the goal gaping he sliced his effort wide. Needing that second goal to make the game safe Street continued to be positive and on the hour mark Josh Bennett then Short smashed efforts in on goal but both were blocked by the visiting defence.

The game opened up in the last 20 minutes and Dave O’Hare was the next to try his luck but his firm header was well saved. On 76 minutes Street had a two goal lead when a Short corner caused panic in the Mangotsfield defence and the ball cannoned in off an unfortunate defender for an own goal.

In the closing stages great work from Butcher saw him set up Harry Foster but his instinctive toe poked effort was saved by the legs of the goalkeeper. It was then Butcher himself who nearly made it 3-0 but his effort cracked against the post. Mangotsfield had one final chance with a header skimming the bar.

A good crowd and entertaining game considering the conditions and the Cobb faithful can look forward to another home game next Saturday against Cinderford Town.
